Thorsten spent five years getting his PhD at UC Berkeley, six years on the faculty at Cornell University, seven years as Chief Architect at Expertcity.com / Citrix Online, and is now looking for something to keep him busy for the next eight years ;-). In the meantime he teaches a course on scalable internet services at UCSB.
